IPL Rejuvenation Therapy: Let There Be Light!

2019-04-18

There’s something properly magical about light; how it is tied to life itself, and the renewal of nature every Spring… Yet light is also a fantastic beauty tool that one would be remiss to pass by. We’re not talking about that wonderful looking tan you’re so proud of, but rather of intense pulsed light technology, or IPL.

So What Is IPL, Exactly?

Just as the name implies, IPL subjects the skin to a series of high-intensity light pulses that penetrate the skin, following a principle of selective thermolysis. Thanks to a special filter in the handpiece, an IPL device emits pulses at certain wavelengths in order to target specific imperfections or blemishes, from pigment spots to redness, couperose and acne scars. But let’s not forget its powerful anti-aging capabilities! Indeed, exposure to the light pulses stimulates collagen production, which helps reduce surface irregularities like wrinkles and fine lines, lack of tone and enlarged pores.

Visible Results, Quickly

While a high-performance device such as the Apilux 3G allows for results to appear after a single treatment session, more convincing results manifest themselves over time. As a rule of thumb, you should expect to go through 4 to 6 visits (depending on to the skill level of the operator and the imperfection being treated) to the tune of one every 3 to 4 weeks.

IPL rejuvenation is a non-invasive, efficient treatment method that is also virtually painless. However, it is not recommended for everybody. Most notably, people with dark skin may experience undesirable pigmentation issue, because of the high concentration of melanin in their skin. A beauty specialist should be able to suggest more appropriate treatments, such as peeling and microdermabrasion.
